OLD AGE
- After being a WWII correspondent for the NY Herald Tribune, Steinbeck returns with psychological trauma - as a treatment, he writes
- 1962 - Awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature - but would publish no more fiction
- 1964 - Awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom
- 1967 - Sent as a reporter to Vietnam
- December 20, 1968 - Dies in New York City from heart disease and congestive heart failure
